Better Block Five Points: Sonny Lawson Park

Volunteers are needed to help manage the Groundwork Denver tent at this inspiring community event!  Volunteers will help event-goers power a stationary bike combined with a blender to create delicious Bike Powered Smoothies.   To sign up contact Kristy directly.  The event runs 10:00am-5:00pm with flexible shifts available.

The “Better Block” project is a community revitalization effort that temporarily demonstrates how to improve a community block with pedestrian and public infrastructure mixed with art, culture, pop-up businesses and street life.  Better Block aims to create quick, inexpensive, high-impact changes that lead to permanent solutions for areas in Denver.  www.facebook.com/BetterBlockFivePoints

About the Lower Bear Creek Project
Lower Bear Creek (between the outfall of Bear Creek Reservoir and the confluence with the South Platte) was listed on Colorado's polluted waters list in 2010 due to elevated levels of E. coli.  The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment has tasked Groundwork Denver with coordinating a comprehensive watershed plan for this segment of Bear Creek.  The watershed plan focuses on non point source (non regulated) pollution and involves community input at all stages.  Collecting "snapshots" of the land that drains into Lower Bear Creek provides crucial information to the project Steering Committee, stakeholders and community groups working to keep urban waters clean.

Stay tuned for future events!
