Sustainable Communities
Low-income communities
and communities of color often experience negative environmental impacts
more directly than the community as a whole. In addition to living with
the negative environmental health impacts and urban blight, these residents
often have less access to green space, clean air, and positive environmental
experiences.
Groundwork Denver’s goals include:
- Educate the community on environmental health issues with the goal of community action for addressing the root cause of the issues.
- Build community capacity for addressing environmental issues by providing opportunities to residents for environmental leadership and job skills development.
- Work with residents to directly improve the environment through projects such as pollution prevention, land cleanup and redevelopment, natural area improvements, tree planting, and improvements to the built environment.
- Provide opportunities for residents to participate in stewardship of natural areas and parks throughout the city.
